Before becoming Senior Consultant at AskRIGHT, Tony Bretherton grew up in Christchurch and was Director of University of Waikato Foundation before a fundraising career in Ireland, England, and Australia. As Director of Development and Community Relations at Xavier College and Executive Director of the Xavier College Foundation, Tony wrote a great short article in Xavier News December 2019 (p.33): "Fundraising is when the Foundation initiates an opportunity for people to give, whereas philanthropy is the inner motivation that...results in gifts given with quiet pleasure and open generosity for the good of others."'
